The Nameless Mod
From The Nameless Mod
The Nameless Mod is a modification developed by the Off Topic Productions group for the game Deus Ex. This mod has been in development for several years. It has two stories that parrallel each other that on average take about 15 hours to complete and over 20 hours for the people who like to explore. It has finally been released on March 14th, 2009, after some lying about the release date.

Plot
You play as some dude called "Trestkon" who explores a 3D rendition of an internet forum. This makes TNM different from other Deus Ex mods because the other mods usually start off with a good idea for a game, and then ruin it by not including voice acting and having horrible writing and character development. However, with TNM, a very lame idea has been implemented well, with decent writing and believable characters.
You were summoned to Forum City because a moderator named Deus Diablo has vanished. Phasmatis forces you to look for Diablo, but you can do whatever you want once you start playing the game. Most of the population will be killable.
As you wander around the game and kill every civilian, you will have the option of doing missions for organizations in order to win the game:
- PlanetDeusEx (PDX) is the government of Forum City. You will have the option of killing many of their members throughout the game, but the high-ranking officials, the moderators, will not be killable.
- WorldCorp (WC) is a business. This business employs many people who can be killed.
- DeusEx.Org (DXO) is a terrorist organization, which is unique among the TNM factions in that it features people who can be killed.
- The Llama Cult is a religious organization. If you enjoyed killing the monks in Hong Kong in the original Deus Ex after they insulted you in a foreign language, you will enjoy doing the same with the Llama Cult.
- The Goat Cult is a religious organization that competes with the Llama Cult. Many of its members will die throughout the course of the game, assuming you kill them.
Changes to the gameplay
- You have fists now. They can be equipped with gloves to improve their effectiveness.
- New weapons have been added to the game, including dual pistols, a Molotov Cocktail, and several different Katanas.
- Augmentation Canisters can be used to upgrade existing augs. The game was designed for this so it doesn't unbalance the game like Shifter would.
- There are now four seperate difficulty sliders instead of one. Player health, enemy health, loot quantity, and enemy quantity can all be customized from a seperate menu when starting the game.
- Trestkon can be customised with a trench coat and a visor or shades in addition to changing his face texture.
- An in-game IRC client exists which is a pretty rad idea.
- Text in books, datacubes, etc. can now span multiple pages, but the game is still in action while you read unlike Invisible War.
- The game will feature new vending machine and ATM mechanics. You will be penalized for hacking into ATMs rather than using an account, and the amount of money you can extract depends on your Computer skill.
- The light augmentation can be upgraded to gain unlimited light. Since the light aug can't really be found in the game, you will need to use an Augmentation Upgrade Canister to do so, which makes upgrading the light aug more costly than upgrading any other aug.
- There is a new training mission with TNM-specific content.
- Characters with augmentations behave more like the player.
- Some Security cameras require people to monitor them and sound an alarm.
- Unconscious characters can die if they sustain damage.
- Cutscenes can be skipped.
- Fire Extinguishers can be used more than once.
- PS20s can be stacked.
- Some important computer terminals require advanced or master level Computer skill to hack, unlike in Deus Ex where differences in skill only affected how quickly one could hack and whether one could manipulate turrets.
- The Swimming skill has been removed, and a Fists skill has replaced it.
System requirements
- Deus Ex. The Steam version works and the mod can be made to work under Linux if you're stubborn and persistant enough.
- Ca. one gigabyte of disk space for the installer.
- Some additional room for saves. Deus Ex is really inefficient about saves and each one takes up like 20 MB to 40 MB, so multiply that by the number of saves you usually keep at a time. The Nameless Mod's saves use even more space since it uses a hub design which requires far more levels to be stored at a time.
- You'll probably need more memory and a slightly beefier processor than with the original Deus Ex. The game has very large levels.
- Either an internet connection (not dialup unless you want to go completely insane attempting to download 1.3 GB of data over dialup) or a game disk. The latter will cost you $5-10.
Versions
The Nameless Mod is currently in version 1.0.2 (released April 22, 2009). Patch 1.0.2 upgrades both the original release version 1.0.0 and the first patch 1.0.1 version. Together, the two patches fix over 340 bugs, glitches, and imbalances in the original version.
