Kunio Kun is a character from an old 8-bit video game who sells augmentations and augmentation upgrades.
Role in Game
Kunio Kun gives the player one of the missions that can give the player money to buy a subway pass. If you steal a floppy disk from SymGeosis, either by killing him or knocking him out, you receive 275 credits, and a discount on Kunio's wares. If you bring Kunio the disk before getting the mission, you will not get the credits, but you will still get the discount. Therefore it is advised to drop the disk before talking to Kunio if it's your first conversation with him and you have the disk in your inventory. Unlike Abomination's mission or the Firewall's mission, but similar to jimmycracker's mission, you can still complete it after a having left the Central District. If you refuse to do it twice when talking to Kunio, you can never give him the disk in return for a discount. This mission is the only mission in the Downtown area that gives a skillpoint award for its completion.
If you don't give Kunio the disk, you can purchase an Augmentation Canister holding Aqualung and Environmental Resistance for 2000 credits. If you have given him the disk, you can get it for 1500 credits. If - before you did something to SymGeosis - you first refused to do the task but then accepted Kunio's second offer, you can have it for 1000 credits.
Kunio also sells 2 Augmentation Upgrade Canisters for 1500 credits each, or 1000 after doing his mission.
Note: In version 1.0.2 it is possible to get unintended reduced discount prices in certain situations, when they should not be applied. Also, there is a bug here that allows one to get infinite Augmentation Upgrade Canisters by having no space. It is unknown whether both issues are fixed for 1.0.3 at the time.
Locations
Kunio Kun can be found inside Sol's Bar and Grille during the first day. Like everybody else in the bar, he leaves for good if you cause trouble.
